INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS  Introduces new computer users to the latest 1703 version of Windows 10 operating system. Learn about the Desktop and Start Menu, the Internet, basic word processing and simple file management. Students will also learn basic navigation, how to create and save documents and access existing files. This course provides all the basic skills needed to continue on with any class students are interested in taking or just a great refresher for those who haven’t used computers for some time and feel they need help starting again.   Knowledge of these functions is a prerequisite for all classes from Code 2 and beyond.  (W10, WordPad, Paint, Internet)

YOUR GUIDE TO WINDOWS 10 The focus of this course is to familiarize students with the Windows 10 operating system.  You will work with the new Start Menu and manage Apps and Settings.  Learn about the Taskbar and Cortana, multiple Desktops and the Windows Store.  Explore the new Edge browser, File Explorer and the Notification Area.  All the basics you need to get started with this new system. UNDERSTANDING MICROSOFT EDGE Learn about the Internet and Microsoft’s newest version of their Edge web browser.  Experience Reading View and how to eliminate all the ads and pop-ups from printing off the web, customize Settings, add Favorites and talk about how Cortana can assist you plus much more.  This is a totally new and faster browser and not an upgrade from Internet Explorer. NEW GETTING TO KNOW THE START MENU Start is the gateway to all you do on your computer so this is your guide to the new 1703 W10 Start Menu.  Learn to shop for, download and install, update, uninstall and pin apps. Work with live tiles, turn on the new transparency effect, resize the menu and work with tile groups.  Make computing easier by understanding how to manage Start. (W10 Start Menu)

COMPUTER CARE AND MAINTENANCE will teach you about virus protection and spyware, how to clean up files and cookies, how to perform Disk Clean-Up and Defrag, how to physically clean the air inlet and outlet of the Central Processor, the monitor, the mouse and more.  Students will learn to maintain PC’s and Laptops.  Every computer user needs to know this stuff!

BEGINNERS TWITTER Create a Twitter account and learn how to TWEET!  Learn how to keep up with social media and track and participate in what’s going on out there.  Students must bring a valid email address and password to class in order to create the Twitter account. (MS Edge)

ANDROID SMARTPHONES AND ANDROID TABLETS  Learn about basic settings, navigation, contacts, emailing and texting, taking & editing pictures, creating a calendar, browsing the internet and using maps, and finally music and apps.  This is a very general guide to Android smartphones and tablets since there are so many manufacturers it is impossible to be device specific.  Once the session is over students will have a better understanding of how to navigate their phones and devices.  Please bring your Android smartphone or Android tablet to class.

FILE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP W10 Learn to organize all your documents, pictures, music, etc. on your computer.  Get acquainted with File Explorer and create a system so you can easily save and find all your stuff.  Learn to create and move files and folders within the computer and how to transfer them to another medium such as a flashdrive. BACK UP YOUR DOCUMENTS AND PICTURES  Don’t take a chance on losing important documents and treasured photos. This class will teach you different ways to back up your “stuff” for safe keeping including Flashdrives and Disks.
